“Switcher” or “Remote Control” ? Which makes more sense?

My girlfriend calls my Harmony Remoter the “switcher” all the time. When she says that, it reminds of those old school remotes for old TVs that had a clicking sound and that triggered a change on the TV.
I tell her “switcher” doesn’t make sense with today’s remotes, but she stands by it. Does she need to change her ways as I think she does?
