Logitech Harmony 1100 Universal Remote Control

We just got Gran Turismo 5 – Prologue today & after purchasing a car, we went to use the 2p battle mode. Our PS3 controller that came with the system (our controller 2) works fine, but the logitech remote (our controller 1) stops working once you get to the split screen and the race starts. It works fine controlling the menu screens, though. Thoughts? This is a huge bummer right now as the hubby & I want to race head to head!
