Bose V20’s Worst Nightmare: A System With Small Speakers for the Same Price

A commenter on one of my videos recently said “it’s not the materials you’re paying for, but the technology you pay for (in a Bose system).” Well, let’s look at Bose’s “technology.” “At Bose, we support our research by reinvesting 100% of our profits back into the company.” -Quoted from Bose’s website First of all, most of Bose’s technologies are already-existing technologies that they slightly modified, patented, and gave a catchy name too. Their Waveguide tech is really just a bandpass box, which is a design that has proven to be inferior. Their Acoustimass technology, which is what their “bass modules” have in their surround sound systems, is also a bandpass box, and is a “why in the heck would you do that?” design. One technology they did invent is Direct/Reflect, which reflects the sound all over the room, creating lifelike imaging (in a concert, 80% of the sound you hear is reflected). In a surround setup, in which certain sounds are supposed to come from certain speakers, sound bouncing all over the room from each speaker isn’t what you want. And, speaking of Bose’s Lifestyle systems, they have the Adaptiq technology, which uses a microphone to calibrate the speakers to your room. This is a very common technology these days on even some of the least expensive receivers. Now, lets look at Bose’s innovations. On Bose’s home page (as of 12-23-09), they show their new products, and they claim they’re “dedicated to innovation”. Well now, a Wave Radio that you can stream …
