Why Bose Speakers Are Overpriced 1 (The Lifestyle 48)

don’t want to spend that much, but want to spend more, getting a Paradigm Seismic-10 sub, which is about $700 less than the Fathom, would also be awesome. @DudeThatAwesome its more like when you buy bose, you get ripped off. bose spend millions of dollars for advertisements and they make their products cheap. tell me how can a cut up cardboards can make better sound than good, quality, real wood, with big speakers?
December 28th, 2009 on 4:41 pm
@DudeThatAwesome not really! they sound good, but for the price of a bose system. I can get a nice system 5 times better sound. Have you ever seen bose show setup beside good speakers? no.
December 28th, 2009 on 4:46 pm
Um, do you have the Acoustimass module? That is your subwoofer. While I do know someone who was able to hook up an actual subwoofer with their Acoustimass system along with the Acoustimass module, I don’t know how you would do that. Does the Acoustimass module on your system hook into the subwoofer output on your receiver?

i have the yamaha rxv-665 hooked up to a bose 5. 1 right now all that i am missing is a sub which is problably going to be a klipsch sub-12. good video!
i hate playing games and movies without a sub!
December 28th, 2009 on 5:48 pm
Bose are way too overrated and overpriced, but the sound has something really good.
I like how Bose speakers sounds, but the reason i wouldn’t ever buy bose,is for example:
A Bose 5. 1 set like AM10 IV with a small subwoofer and small speakers cost around 2000$,but with 2000$ i’m getting cinematic floorstanding speakers with frequency response and “big” sound for cinema experience you can’t even imagine on Bose!
Even for a living room 30m2 like mine,Bose is expensive and useless.

1. I’ve heard Bose’s systems. Compared to other systems I’ve heard, they’re a joke. Did you not read my reply?
2. You can’t buy two more speakers with their systems. There’s only outputs for 5 speakers. And, if they claim to be so incredibly advanced, why don’t they have 7 speakers? Same thing with a Blu-Ray player. Why would you NOT want a Blu-Ray player?
3. Read the video description in my video “Bose V20’s Worst Nightmare”. That will tell you what Bose’s “research” is all about.
December 28th, 2009 on 7:01 pm
When you buy Bose you buy a amazing sound. . you dont buy a blue-ray player. have you ever tryed to hear BosE’? they dont need 2 extra speakers for better sound? and if you want 7. 1 you can just buy 2 more speakers!
Bose aint overpriced its all money worth.
Bose have a slogan: Better sound through research.
December 28th, 2009 on 7:21 pm
Why doesn’t Bose’s Lifestyle systems that are supposedly so cutting edge and have all this research put into them lack current technology? Why don’t they have Blu-Ray players? Why don’t they have 7. 1 surround sound? (They only have 5. 1). Why do they have limited HDMI connection, in that the Lifestyle 28 requires this $300 adapter (the LS48 comes with it) that only has 2 HDMI inputs (so does the V20 and V30), while the receiver in this video, and even a $300 Yamaha, have 4?
Why?
December 28th, 2009 on 7:53 pm
BTW, the Yamaha receiver in this video has a room-scanning feature, too. It’s pretty common technology even on some of the most least expensive speakers.
Also, if Bose is so good and worth all this money, then why aren’t audio enthusiasts buying it?
And, have you watched this video yet?
December 28th, 2009 on 8:03 pm
And, in those demos (especially the ones at places that carry other speaker brands; most of the demos in the Bose stores aren’t set up like this because there’s no other brands to compare them to), the speakers are put 3 ft. in front of your face and behind you, turned up really loud, and are playing music Bose has selected. This way, they’re going to sound REALLY good in the store. And, as I mentioned earlier, there’s no other brands to compare them to.
Heck, what other brands have you heard?
December 28th, 2009 on 8:27 pm
Yeah I’ve been to a Bose dealer. The day before I went, I heard a $2000 or so Paradigm Cinema system with a Yamaha receiver and a Velodyne subwoofer. I was also used to hearing my family’s $1500 Wharfedale surround system, and my pair of Paradigm Atom Monitors. When I heard their Lifestyle 48, I was shocked; it was WORSE than I thought it would be. Up until then, I thought Bose was somewhat good, but I mean that thing, and all the other speakers I heard there, were a joke.
December 28th, 2009 on 8:57 pm
Have you every tryed a Bose Show?? try go to Boston and try a Bose show and get blown away!! Bose new speakers can scan the room for improve the sound for you room!!
it is expensive but it is all worth the money!
December 28th, 2009 on 9:00 pm
sorry for being so obscure . the way in the video and i know lot of boss fanboys wont agree. boss is completely overpriced
December 28th, 2009 on 9:56 pm
@obscure741
The way in the video, or the way DudeThatAwesome feels about Bose?
December 28th, 2009 on 10:31 pm
i feel the same way about bose
December 28th, 2009 on 11:08 pm
Bose approaches those companies first. Bose markets their products very, very well, and having their stuff being associated with high-cost luxury items is just another feather in their cap.
WATCH THIS VIDEO! It proves Bose’s Lifestyle 48 is overpriced and out of date. Watch the “Bose Lifestyle 48’s Worst Nightmare” video, too. It shows how their small speakers are incredibly flawed performance-wise.
Don’t fall for marketing. Just because it’s more expensive doesn’t mean it’s better.
December 28th, 2009 on 11:59 pm
Better yet, for $1800 (which is about how much the Bose option in many luxury cars costs), a system with Hertz Dieci 165 component speakers as fronts, Dieci coaxials as rears; both powered by a Concept 4-channel amp, + a JL Audio 10 in. W1v2 sub powered by a Concept mono amp, would wipe ANY Bose car system off the face of the earth (if not destroy any home Bose system).
BTW Mercedes doesn’t use Bose anymore; they now use Harmon/Kardon. Also, how does Gucci use Bose?
December 29th, 2009 on 12:06 am
All of those Bose systems, first of all, are very, very cheaply made. A simple $1000 4-speaker system ran off a relatively inexpensive aftermarket deck+1 10 in. subwoofer (preferrably 2 pairs of Hertz Dieci 165 coaxial speakers, a JL Audio 10 in. Powerwedge Max subwoofer system, and a Kenwood deck), would destroy any Bose car system.
December 29th, 2009 on 12:11 am
Bose is amazing. . i would say bose is one of the best!
Why do you think NASA, mercedes, le mans, corvette, ferrari, Gucci and more co-up with bose?? THEY WANT THE BEST SOUND!
December 29th, 2009 on 1:01 am
this guy sounds like he’s on cocaine. sketchy bastard.
December 29th, 2009 on 1:08 am
bose suck. if your system has no highs or lows, it’s a bose.
December 29th, 2009 on 1:31 am
But anyway. . . anyway. . . . anyyyyw. . aayy. . . ah hahahah~
December 29th, 2009 on 1:38 am
With horn loaded subs, you have to corner load them to get the best results. Outside, you would prob. . find this sub dropping off about 60Hz, but indoors, room gain kicks in and gives ruler flat response. I will have to build one myself. After all the best judge is the ears of the listener, and you are right about the skill of the builder. Any air leaks will drastically reduce performance! also this sub is big compared to the fathom. 15″ driver, 36″ x 36″ x 24″ enclosure.
December 29th, 2009 on 2:01 am
Well it’s a horn loaded design, which means instead of the speaker facing the open air, it’s mounted internally in an expanding tunnel. This matches the driver to the air, meaning very high efficiency, but the tunnel also serves as an air brake, meaning you have bass that slaps like a kick drum and stops on a dime, no muddy overhang whatsoever, and very little harmonic distortion. The frequency response is flat to 30Hz on the 24″ and 20Hz in the 36″ (won’t fit through a door) version.

Bose are so over rated. I have a pair of Studio Precision 8 reference monitors that I use for multi track audio recording but also for entertainment. At a little less a twelve hundred dollars these 2×280 watts powered monitors sound crystal clear and can make the air move. Even movies sound great. I would rather have great stereo with movies than mediocre surround sound with lesser speakers. I want to feel sound not just hear it. Cant have real surround sound with out full frequency satellites.
