Remote control dimmer switches – want to control 2 switches side by side (dual gang). HELP!?
by Logic on Oct.31, 2009, under Harmony News
I am renovating my basement and putting in a nice home theater. I have a room with two light switches, one controls recessed lighting on each side of the room. I am looking for a brand of dimmer switch that I can use 1 remote control to control both light switches (independently). I am having a hard time finding such an item, but it can’t be that rare! Ideally, I’d like to program my logitech harmony remote control to control both light switches. I have heard of people doing this, but I don’t know what brand of switches I can use! There are many brands that 1 remote controls 1 switch, but I have 2 switches right next to each other (dual-gang box) that control different sides of the room. HELP!!!

GREAT QUESTION! And its hard. You should look at products from Lutron and Vantage. Another is the light-o-Lier. All are faint infra-red triggered. But be warned: there will be a low cost solution. Roll back to a high level – and price match. That said, there are some more "kludgey" (sp) how to address this here. X-10 systems claim to be able to have soft lighting controls with infra-red, but it buys a lot of these "modules" (black boxes and adapters, etc.) to pull this off – and the end can end up spending so much time (or more beautiful one) so that your desired end result happen. My advice: stick to reputable companies who have worked on this long ago. Bite the Bullet and spend the money upfront, do well and that allows you to continue the "business" to enjoy the calm new theater experience much earlier and more elegant.
